01What Markwell is
Markwell reads scanned student worksheets, produces a first-pass score against a rubric you set, and helps you review, approve, and share grades. It is a tool for a teacher, not a replacement for one. A human reviews and approves every grade before it is final, and you are responsible for the grades you approve.
02Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity under your account.
- You must give accurate information and be a teacher, school employee, or other authorized educator.
- One account is for one educator. Tell us at hello@markwellgrading.com if you suspect unauthorized use.
03Plans, billing, and cancellation
- Free plan. Grade up to 150 pages each calendar month at no cost. The count resets on the first of the month.
- Pro. $15 per month, or $149 per year, per teacher. Pro removes the monthly page limit and unlocks the year-long student record.
- Payment. Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Markwell never sees or stores your card number.
- Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your billing settings; access continues to the end of the paid period.
- Refunds. If Markwell is not right for you, contact us within 30 days of a charge and we will make it right.
- Prices may change; we will give notice before a change affects your next renewal.
04Student data and your responsibilities
How Markwell protects student data is described in our Privacy & Security page, which is part of these terms. Because the design depends on a classroom routine, you agree to:
- Have students identify their work by an assigned number, not their name, so pages sent for grading are de-identified.
- Only enter student data you are authorized to handle, and only use Markwell for legitimate educational work.
- Review and approve grades yourself before they are filed or sent, and get any consents your school requires before emailing students or families.
05Acceptable use
Do not misuse the service: no attempting to break, overload, or reverse-engineer it; no uploading unlawful content; no using it to harass anyone; and no reselling access without our written agreement. We may suspend an account that puts the service or other users at risk.
06The grading is a first pass
Markwell produces a first-pass score to save you time, not a guaranteed-correct grade. AI reading of handwriting can be wrong. That is why the tool flags uncertain work and requires your approval. You are responsible for reviewing and approving grades before you rely on them. The service is provided "as is," without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
07Liability
To the extent the law allows, Markwell is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that cannot be limited by law.
08Changes, ending, and contact
We may update these terms; material changes will be noted here and dated, and continued use means the new terms apply. You can stop using Markwell and delete your account at any time. We may end an account for a serious or repeated breach of these terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, USA.
